7 Steps to Make Your Morning Better

First of all, I won't tell you to drink hot lemon water, regardless of whether it really helps your body wake up and is good for digestion is neither here nor there. It's just that you'll find that piece of advice in any article about morning routines.

Second of all, I want to set the stage and let you know that my steps are not going to take very long - I'm talking about adding 15 minutes to your morning routine. Tops! And you'll want to. Why? Because following these steps will help you walk out the door ready for the day and feeling your best. 

So here are 7 Steps that I personally take every morning to help me wake up, energize, and start my day on the right foot.

1. Wake up using Sleep Cycle

Sleep Cycle is a very useful phone app that helps me fall asleep with sounds of ocean waves, tracks my sleep, and then helps me wake up when the timing is right. That being said, another suggestion is to wake up 10 minutes earlier than normal to give yourself more time for healthy morning habits!

2. Immediately make the bed. 

Yes, we've heard this one before BUT that's because it's good for you to make your bed first thing in the morning. It gives you the chance to accomplish something right away which sets the tone for the rest of the day, and it creates a sense of order and cleanliness. 

3. Put on some music. 

My favorite? Uptown Funk. But anything that is fun and upbeat and makes you want to groove is great! 

4. Workout, for even 10 minutes. 

Not only does exercising help wake you up literally (try sleeping through burpees), it also helps you get your heart-rate going, blood pumping and body moving! Plus it helps you feel strong, connected to your body, and confident first thing in the morning. 

5. Meditate, for even 1 minute. 

One minute = ten deep breaths. That's it. You don't even have to sit down. After working out you can stand in Mountain Pose (standing tall with arms by your sides), close your eyes and take 10 deep breaths to help you ground yourself in the present and clear the clutter of your mind. 

6. Eat something healthy. 

Skipping breakfast is a HUGE no, no. You need to break the fast that has happened while you were sleeping. On days where I have time I like to make myself 1.5 eggs with veggies and a slice of Ezekial toast. On days I don't have time? A delicious smoothie with yogurt, strawberries, banana and spinach with a handful of walnuts. Make breakfast work for you - just make sure you actually eat breakfast. 

 

7. Be grateful.

Finally, before you rush out of the house take a moment to pause and feel gratitude for the opportunity of a new day. So often we are busy rushing, rushing, rushing that we don't remember how amazingly lucky we are to be alive and have a new day in front of us. 

Use these 7 Steps to help you create a foundation for the rest of the day to grow upon and I bet the rest of your day will be better as a result.
